Downtown Farmers’ Market – Every Saturday through October 26

Halloween on the Hill – October 30

Location: Sherman Hill Historic District
Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Take a short walk from downtown to one of the city’s most spirited Halloween traditions! Halloween on the Hill transforms Sherman Hill into a spooky wonderland filled with decorated historic homes, trick-or-treating, and festive photo ops. It’s a must-see for families and anyone who loves creative fall displays.

Sips and Stroll – November 4

This one’s for the wine lovers! Sips in the City brings together local restaurants, wineries, and live music for an elegant evening downtown. Sip, sample, and socialize while exploring the flavors of Iowa and beyond — it’s one of Des Moines’ most popular fall food and drink events.

Des Moines Performing Arts Fall Lineup

Catch a Broadway-caliber show without leaving town! The Des Moines Civic Center is hosting Buries Child & A Beautiful Noise: The Neal Diamond Musical (October 22–October 26) and Willy Wonka Jr.  (November 7–16), Les Misérables (November 12-16)and Triple Espresso (November 18-30). Whether you’re bringing the family or planning a date night, these shows are guaranteed to impress.

Holiday Promenade – November 22–December 20

Location: Historic East Village

Downtown Des Moines lights up for the holidays with the beloved Holiday Promenade series! Every Friday night, the East Village hosts festive shopping, carolers, holiday treats, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Don’t miss the annual tree lighting and twinkling displays that make this area magical all season long.

Brenton Skating Plaza Opening – November 22

Time: 5PM – 8PM

Kick off winter fun at Brenton Skating Plaza’s grand opening weekend! Enjoy ice skating along the river with stunning city skyline views. Whether you’re a pro on the ice or just there for the hot cocoa, it’s one of Des Moines’ most beloved holiday traditions. Roosevelt Marching Band is preforming during the event.  Tree lighting Ceremony at 6PM. Santa and Mrs. Claus 6PM – 8PM.
